Chathura Weerasekara

Chathura Weerasekara is a diplomat of the Sri Lanka Foreign Service, currently

serving at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa. He has extensive experience

in foreign policy, multilateral diplomacy, international relations and public diplomacy,

having represented Sri Lanka at the United Nations and other major international

forums.

Throughout his diplomatic career, he has served in Sri Lankan missions abroad,

including the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to UN in New York and the Consulate

General of Sri Lanka in Dubai, and has worked closely with foreign governments,

international organizations and Sri Lankan communities overseas. He holds a Master’s

Degree in International Relations from the University of Colombo and a Bachelor’s

Degree in Humanities from the University of Kelaniya.

He is also a Sworn Translator at the District Court Colombo. Prior to joining the Foreign

Service, he served as a journalist in a leading Newspaper and a Television Channel

of Sri Lanka. His assumption of duties in Sri Lanka High Commission in Ottawa

succeeds his role as the Director of the Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of

Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
