Sri Lanka and Canada Explore Trade and Investment Opportunities at Business Networking Event in Ottawa

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa, in collaboration with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (CanCham), facilitated a Trade and Investment Discussion and Networking Event on 28 October 2026, bringing together members of the diplomatic corps, officials from Global Affairs Canada, Canadian business representatives and members of a visiting Sri Lankan business delegation.

The event was held as part of a business promotion mission to Canada organized by CanCham, aimed at strengthening trade and investment links between the two countries. The mission included business engagements in Vancouver and Toronto, followed by the Ottawa event, with a further promotional programme scheduled to take place in Montreal.

Addressing the gathering, Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Canada, Chathura Weerasekara, welcomed the delegation and commended CanCham for its initiative. He highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Canada and the potential for further cooperation in trade, tourism, technology and services.

The Acting High Commissioner also drew attention to Sri Lanka Expo 2027, highlighting its role in showcasing Sri Lanka’s export capabilities and emerging economic sectors, while encouraging Canadian businesses to explore opportunities through the event. A promotional video on the Expo was screened during the programme.

Co-Founder and Board Director of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka (CanCham), Mohamed Hameez, outlined the Chamber’s role in facilitating business meetings, establishing commercial connections and promoting bilateral trade and investment between Sri Lanka and Canada.

Chairman of Homelands Group, Nalin Herath, delivered a presentation on the company’s recent developments, ongoing projects and business activities in Sri Lanka, providing participants with an overview of its initiatives and future plans.

The event also provided an opportunity for the visiting delegation and Canadian business representatives to interact, exchange views and explore potential areas of collaboration.
